Hello! Welcome to my portfolio page. My name is Chris and I am currently studying Computer Information Systems at DMACC while also working full-time, so life stays pretty busy. My background is a mix of healthcare, trucking, hospitality, and hands-on work, which probably explains why I enjoy problem-solving so much. I like figuring out how things work, fixing what is not working, and learning new skills as I go. That mindset is a big part of what drew me to technology.

Outside of school, I enjoy working on creative and practical projects, from websites to restoration work to whatever else I decide to tear apart and rebuild. Web development interests me because it combines creativity with logic and gives me the chance to build something useful from an idea. My goal is to keep developing both front-end and back-end skills so I can eventually create complete websites for small businesses and individuals. I am still learning, but every project gives me a little more confidence and a better understanding of how everything fits together. On another note, I also have three dogs.

My foundational website is meant to serve as a portfolio where I can organize and display the work I complete throughout this course. The main purpose of the site is to give me one place where I can showcase projects, assignments, and examples of the web development skills I am learning. As I continue through the course, I plan to add new work and make improvements to the site so it changes along with my abilities. Right now, I am still learning how HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and other web development tools work together, so the website is also a way for me to practice those skills in a project that continues to grow over time. Instead of completing an assignment and then moving on from it, I can add it to the portfolio and use it as an example of what I have learned.

The website also represents my learning journey in this course because the design and structure will improve as I learn more. Some of the earlier parts of the site may be fairly simple, but that gives me something to build on as I learn better ways to create layouts, make pages responsive, improve navigation, and organize content. I like the idea of being able to look back at earlier work and compare it to projects I complete later because it will make my progress easier to see. The portfolio will not only show finished projects, but also the development of my skills and understanding.

Another purpose of the site is to give me experience creating something that could eventually be used professionally. I am interested in learning how to build complete websites for small businesses and individuals, so creating and maintaining my own portfolio gives me practice with the same kinds of decisions I may need to make for future clients. I can experiment with different layouts, styles, forms, and responsive design while still keeping everything connected in one website. By the end of the course, I want the portfolio to show both the work I completed and how much I improved while learning web development.
